I took some screens of my latest map tonight: (December 21, 2011) steamcommunity.com/id/Fish_Bulb/screenshotsThe new map will be called cvn_evicted and is very near completion. It's my first crack at a large-scale outdoor map, which I've been wanting to try my hand at for a long time. I really want to play it with a nice sized group of people.

... And by ... I mean this is the most sexiest map to date. Let's try to get some Coven holiday cheer going! Speaking of which Izzy sent me a message the other day... need to get back to him. HOPEFULLY he is dying for Coven action as much as I am

-UPDATE- I took some more screenshots today of the now finished cvn_evicted: steamcommunity.com/id/Fish_Bulb/screenshots(same URL as before, just checkout the screens under today's date) I added fog to increase performance in big open-ass areas. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. (thx leon!)

The outside of that map looks so darn nice. The cabin area could do with some dividing walls and a few more details but im assuming you probably have that in mind already. Curious as to how you got your hills and things looking so nice and natural, was it using a certain noise pattern or grid shape?

I always make the mistake of not using correct multiples of my grid which is extremely annoying when your searching for a leak and your pointmaps wont load. Tried getting on my sdk last night, basically all of my steam files are denying me access without and internet connection.

For this map I just took the less efficient but easy approach of creating a big grid of square displacements. Then i just morphed a play area out of that and dropped in some additional displacements for cliffs that didn't really need to be sewn to the main grid.

Thats how i usually would but how would you do it if the map isnt square? for instance if your map basically has corridors and paths and strange thing that usually wont work into the grid format? Do you just work it through multiples of yoru grid size or is there another way?

If you just looked at the map from above it basically is a square. But I defined the play area using props/player clip/cliff displacements so that it doesn't really appear to be square from the players POV. It's kind of an amateur-ish way to do it, but hey, I'm an amateur

Bloody good map. Loving the outdoors woodland area. Barn could do with some windows vamp can enter so its not so much of a bottle neck for campers and outdoors could do with a few roofed things for cover when running between buildings. Loving the interiors, the dust motes you used work fantastic and the cellar lighting is superb and creepy
